Fish and Wildlife Technician 1

Seasonal Fish and Wildlife Technician position based in Avon, Livingston County, to work on the stream access, habitat inventory and enhancement. Under supervision of a FWT 3 / Biologist, the Technician will walk stream segments assessing in-stream and riparian zone habitat condition and develop plans to enhance stream quality to allow for trout stocking or management category upgrades. Technician will also be responsible for checking on Public Fishing Rights (PFR), Angler Parking Areas (APA) and Fishing Access Sites (FAS) to ensure clean and usable conditions and posting signage along stream sections as directed. Technician will be responsible for posting verified access on in-land trout streams. Under a Biologist's supervision, the Technician will also assist in upgrading the Region's Fisheries Public Access Files. This will involve, working with Real Property and Fisheries staff to ensure efficient filings of regional assets. Computer skills (Excel, Access, Word) will be needed. GIS skills while not a requirement is a plus. Technician must effectively interact and communicate with the public. Technician will work in a variety of inclement weather conditions and navigate over rough terrain, including walking in streams.

Salary Range:
From $18.22 to $18.22 Hourly
Minimum Qualification
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 position which are as follows:
30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography. Preferred
Qualifications:
Experience trailering and operating boats as long as 20 feet in length, interacting with the public and identifying salmon and trout.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
